debut: 'There's much to take pride in'

Arlington's College Park Center, Caitlin Clark, the 2024 No. 1 WNBA pick, made
her unofficial professional debut on Friday evening. Despite the Indiana
Fever's narrow 79-76 loss to the Dallas Wings, Clark delivered an impressive
performance, tallying 21 points.
The
NCAA's leading scorer wasted no time, contributing 11 points within Indiana's
initial 19 before concluding the first half with 16 points, including a notable
stepback 3-pointer against seasoned player Natasha Howard. However, foul
trouble sidelined her for much of the third quarter.
Returning
in the fourth, Clark showcased her prowess with another 3-pointer, her fifth of
the game, and orchestrated an assist to Aliyah Boston. Although facing a
formidable challenge from Howard in the final moments, Clark remained
undeterred.
Clark's
21-point contribution, along with 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 5
turnovers, equaled the game-high alongside Dallas rookie Jaelyn Brown. Despite
the defeat, Clark expressed pride in her performance: "My biggest goal
tonight was to maintain my style of play, to be aggressive. I believe I
achieved that. There's much to be proud of."
While
spectators eagerly awaited Clark's debut, Dallas guard Arike Ogunbowale sealed
