Real Madrid Set For Second Wembley Visit: What Happened On The First?

Real Madrid has only played at Wembley Stadium once before, in 2017.

The upcoming Champions League final, set to take place at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, June 1st, will feature German side Borussia Dortmund and Spanish outfit Real Madrid. This will mark Borussia Dortmund's second appearance in a Champions League final at Wembley, having previously lost to Bayern Munich there in 2013. However, it will be only the second-ever visit for Real Madrid to the iconic stadium.

Real Madrid has only once before played at Wembley Stadium, although they have never participated in a European final there. This is largely due to Wembley's status as a venue primarily reserved for finals and international competitions.

Their solitary visit occurred in November 2017 when Tottenham Hotspur utilized the stadium as their home ground due to ongoing construction work for their new facility in North London. The fixture was a Champions League group stage match, during which Tottenham surprised Real Madrid by emerging as 3-1 victors in front of a crowd of 83,000 spectators. To this day, this remains Real Madrid's sole visit to Wembley Stadium.

Zinedine Zidane was at the helm that night, overseeing the match, though only three players from the Real Madrid lineup are expected to participate in the upcoming final. Among them are current captain Nacho Fernández and midfield maestros Luka Modrić and Toni Kroos.

English midfielder Dele Alli netted twice for Tottenham, propelling them into the lead, while Christian Eriksen, now plying his trade at Manchester United, added a third. Cristiano Ronaldo managed to pull one back for the visitors in the closing stages of the game.

Real Madrid fielded a star-studded side including Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.
